To begin setting up your course in the Academic Management System (AMS), navigate to the courses page. Here, you can select a specific course and enter edit mode, launching a 5-step wizard designed to guide you through the setup process.
Navigating the Details Section
- Course Community Link: Include a link to any discussion space associated with your course, such as Slack or Discord. In the absence of a specific link, the system defaults to the degree community.
- Description: This is where you inform your students about the course. The description is visible to students, so ensure it is informative and engaging, providing them with a clear understanding of what to expect from the course.
- Image: Woolf typically provides course images, but customization is an option for those who prefer it.
Navigating the Resources Section
Course Requirements
Under the "Course Requirements" tab, you will find:
Hours of Workload: The mandatory minimum hours of course content.
Resources: The essential number of peer-reviewed publications and assignments (both regular and summative).
These criteria are foundational for maintaining compliance with university regulations.
Meeting Configuration
To align with course workload standards, incorporate a range of content including readings, videos, assignments, and articles. These components are required for course validation.
Live sessions, whether they be lectures, group discussions, or one-on-ones, also form a part of your course. There’s no need to pre-register these as 'meeting resources' in Woolf. After the event, simply sync the recordings and attendance with Woolf. More information about meetings can be found here.
In the Declared Meeting Workload section, indicate the live session hours offered to an average student. This figure, while not mandatory for each student, reflects the workload your course presents.
💡Note: The declared hours initially act as placeholders. Once live session hours submitted surpass this declaration, the total course workload will adjust accordingly.
Calculate Workload
The "Calculate Workload" section aids in setting default values for each kind of resource, helping you gauge if you're meeting the course's required workload.
- Default Workload: Assigns a workload to a resource if unspecified upon creation.
- Quantity: Informs the Woolf Team of your intended resource count.
These default values apply only to new resources and will not retroactively affect existing ones.
Navigating the Teachers Section
The Teachers section outlines necessary qualifications and the minimum number of instructors.
You have the option to invite teachers to your course from this tab. To get your course verified, you must meet the minimum teaching requirements. However, you can add more teachers or change them later.
If a teacher, previously added to your college, provides grades or feedback for students, they will be automatically enrolled in the course and listed among its teachers.
Navigating the Grades Section
Grade management in the Grades section is subject to strict rules. The sum of all grade weights must equal 100%.
Adjustments to grade weights is restricted if at least one grade has been allocated to it.
