Standalone Canvas platform is managed by Woolf and hosted in the cloud. As a college with root account access, you're equipped with a robust set of tools and permissions, different from those with sub-account access. Below, you'll find key benefits of your setup and essential guidelines to ensure smooth operation.
While you are encouraged to take full advantage of Canvas's features, integration with Woolf requires careful coordination to ensure that compliance and synchronization issues are preemptively managed. Please ensure all modifications and enhancements are cleared through Woolf to guarantee they align with our integrated system's requirements.
Key Benefits
User Management
- Complete control over user invitations and registrations, including the ability to invite new students directly in Canvas and manage their statuses without external assistance (resend invite, check last login).
Integration and LTI Management
- Full autonomy to manage and configure external integrations and LTI tools without waiting for external support.
- Unrestricted API access, enabling comprehensive automation and integration capabilities.
Before implementing any custom configurations or integrations on Canvas, you must consult with Woolf. Approval from Woolf is necessary to maintain the integrity of the integration and to ensure compliance standards are met.
Theme and Branding
- Full control over branding and appearance, ensuring all communications reflect the institution's identity and name.
- Custom Domain: Woolf offers the option to establish a custom domain for your standalone Canvas environment.
- Email Configuration: While the sender name for all outgoing emails from Canvas will display as your College name, the sending address will be canvas@woolf.university.
Canvas's communication tools
- Utilize Canvas's communication tools to keep students and faculty informed.
- Ability to create and manage global announcements for all students, enhancing communication efficiency.
Key Guidelines
- Woolf team members must retain admin access at all times. Colleges cannot remove admin roles for any email with a `woolf.university` domain.
- Regularly review user access and permissions. Ensure only authorized personnel have access to sensitive areas.
- Woolf manages all backend updates and maintenance, ensuring your platform remains secure and efficient. Report any issues or needs directly to Woolf support.
- Course Creation: Do not create courses directly in Canvas if you require synchronization with Woolf for compliance and tracking purposes. All courses must be initiated through the Woolf Team via the AMS. This process ensures that courses are properly synced, allowing for seamless integration of student activities and course content between both platforms.
- Compliance Assurance:
- Student activity and course content must remain synchronized with Woolf.
- The Woolf widget must be accessible to both students and teachers for essential functionalities.
