Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) to receive credit exemptions

If your college allows, you can apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) to receive credit exemptions based on your past work and learning. We process all applications within 7 business days and issue a formal RPL Exemption report for successful applications.

What you need to know

  1. Apply for RPL  through the Credit Exemption option (located in the sidebar) on the Woolf Dashboard
  2. Maximum credits: The maximum exemption amount is specific to each college and degree and can never exceed 50% of the degree.
  3. How credits apply:
    • All RPL credits can be applied toward your Tier 2 learning, not tied to specific courses.
    • Once you receive your exemption decision, finish any mandatory courses first, then choose the number of electives that match the remaining credits you need.
  4. Review timeline:
    • We review and respond within seven business days.
    • If we request more information, the seven-day timeline restarts.
    • Once completed, reviews and exemptions cannot be changed or appealed.
  5. What you can apply with:
    • Work experience from the past five years that is relevant to your degree
    • Completed academic courses and certificates
    • Or both

If you are applying with work experience

You must provide proof of employment for any work you want considered, from the last five years. Accepted documents include:

  • A signed employer letter
  • A pay stub with financial details redacted
  • A signed employer recommendation

If you are an entrepreneur, you can submit proof of incorporation that clearly shows your name.

All documents must include your name.

If you are applying with prior courses

You must share:

  • Certificates for completed courses, or
  • A transcript for any incomplete degrees

Completed full degrees cannot be considered for exemptions.

How it works

Log in to the Woolf Dashboard / AMS and look for the Credit Exemption option in the sidebar

On clicking this option, you will see the following instructions:

  1. Fill out the credit exemption review to check your initial fit.
  2. Gather and upload your documents.
  3. Our academic team will carefully review your documentation.
  4. You'll hear from us by email within 7 business days with your results.

Application review

Start your application by answering a short set of questions about your work experience and available evidence. Your answers help us understand whether you may be eligible before you upload documents.

After answering these questions, you will be asked to upload the following documents.

Add your CV or Resume

It helps our team if your CV gives examples what you did in the role and names any software tools or programming languages that you used.

Upload proof of employment

The best evidence here is a letter from your employer, but other evidence could be the signed employment contract or similar documentation (a signed offer letter, a paystub with financial information redacted). Ensure your name is visible. If you are an entrepreneur, you can submit proof of ownership.

Additional documents that demonstrate your learning or support the claims in your CV

Providing more evidence to strengthen your application. Ensure your name is visible on all documents. Helpful documents include:

  • Professional certificates or awards.
  • Transcripts for partially completed degrees. (Credits from completed degrees cannot be reused.)
  • A PDF portfolio of projects related to the degree you would like to study.

File types and limits

  1. We support .pdf, .png, and .jpeg files only.
  2. Please limit the number of files to 8.
  3. In case you have multiple documents, for example, certificates or pay stubs, please combine them into PDFs for each category of documents.
